Tethr Events

Privacy.

This explains what happens to your information when you message us about an event. It is written to be read by a guest in about three minutes, not by a lawyer.

⚠ Not legal advice. This describes what the product actually does, and every claim in it corresponds to something built rather than intended. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it should be before Tethr relies on it commercially. Where the code and this document disagree, the code is the bug — fix the code.

Who we are, and whose event this is

Tethr operates a WhatsApp assistant that answers guests on behalf of the person or organisation hosting an event — a couple, a family, a wedding hall, a company.

The host owns the guest list. They chose to invite you, they provided your number, and they decide what happens to it. We look after it for them and do not use it for anything else.

If you want to be removed and would rather ask the host directly, that works too — they can remove you from their side.

What we hold about you

From the host's guest list, before you have said anything to us:

From your conversation with us, only what you tell us:

We do not collect your location, your contacts, your WhatsApp profile photo, or anything from any other conversation on your phone.

We ignore photos, voice notes and documents. If you send one, nothing is stored. You will not get a reply to it either — that is a current limitation, not a privacy feature.

What we do with it

Four things, and nothing else:

  1. Answer your questions about the event — timing, venue, parking, dress code, and so on.
  2. Record your RSVP so the host knows how many people to cater for.
  3. Message you about that event — an invitation, a reminder if you have not replied, and confirmation of details close to the day.
  4. Tell the host when something needs a person: a question we cannot answer, anything about money or gifts, or a change only they can approve.

The assistant is software, and it says so

Replies are generated by an AI assistant, not a person. It will tell you that plainly if you ask — it is not permitted to claim to be human.

To produce a reply, the text of your message is sent to our AI provider (Groq, in the United States) along with the event's details. Your message is processed to generate an answer. We do not use your messages to train AI models, and our provider is contractually a processor rather than an independent user of the data.

A human working for the host can also read your conversation and reply personally. When they do, the assistant stops replying to you until they hand it back.

Who else is involved

We use a small number of services to run this, and no others:

Meta / WhatsApp delivers the messages WhatsApp's own terms
Groq generates the assistant's replies United States
Neon hosts the database Singapore

That means your information leaves Malaysia — the database is in Singapore, and message text passes through the United States to generate a reply. That is a cross-border transfer and you should know about it.

We never sell your information. We never share it with another host or another client. We never use it to market Tethr to you.

How long we keep it

We keep your details for as long as the host has a relationship with you, so that they can see what happened at their event and run the next one better — who came, who never replied, what people asked about.

We do not have a fixed deletion date. What we have instead is a way for you to end it at any time, which is the next section.

Your choices

To stop the messages

Reply STOP.

That is it. It works immediately, it is recognised in Malay and English, and it does not depend on anything else working properly.

What happens then:

If you want to stop hearing about everything from that host, say so and we will widen it.

To have your details deleted

Ask us in the conversation — "delete my details" or anything like it.

We will ask you once to confirm, because it cannot be undone. When you confirm:

To see or correct what we hold

Ask in the conversation, or ask the host. If something is wrong — your name spelled differently, the wrong number of seats — just tell us and we will change it.

Keeping it safe

No system is perfect. If you think something has gone wrong with your information, tell us and we will look into it and say what we find.

Under Malaysian law

This is written with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) in mind. Under it you have the right to be told what is held about you, to access and correct it, to withdraw consent, and to limit how it is processed. The sections above are how each of those works in practice rather than in principle.

The host is the party who decided to collect your information. Tethr processes it on their instructions.

Changes

If this changes materially, the date at the top changes and the current version is always at this address. We will not quietly narrow a promise made here.
